Upplagsplats 102 (SE)

A Hidden relic from the Cold War. During the cold war, Swedish was best in class in how to prepare for war. They built bunkers and defense facilities everywhere like this hidden railway tunnel in the mountain. This one, ‘Upplagsplats 102’, was built in the 50ties and is a 100 m long tunnel in the mountain. It was connected to the nearby railway, but the tracks are long gone or hidden in the ground. If the enemy cuts off power to the nearby area and the railway, the plan was to drive in mobile converters and transformers to ensure the electricity supply...

Climbing up a concrete WW2 tower!

Rusty Artillery Tower in Sweden I’m not usually fond of heights. Climbing structures and rusty ladders makes me feel uneasy and unsafe. But when we found this concrete tower in the woods I knew I had to try. So I climbed up the coastal artillery tower from WW2 to get a better view of the surroundings and find out what was on the top. The top had a circular armored dome, fences around and a small room in the front with steel hatches on every window. I guess the view to the ocean was much better in the old days without the trees....

15 Pics of Abandoned Trains, Trolleys and Rusty Locomotives

Magnificent Machines from another Era While we are waiting for the first pictures of the possibly found nazi gold train in Poland, let’s take a look at a few other remarkable, abandoned trains and rusty locomotives forgotten by time. They are everywhere, on side tracks and standing in larger train graveyards. Many of them face a fate as scrap metal, but the ones who are just forgotten and rusting away in silence are amazing and eerie to look at. They all have a history and they have all worked hard once transporting people or goods. The one at the bottom is...

Abandoned Prison H15 (FR)

It feels strange to want to go to prison! We woke up early and left our top floor penthouse suite at the hotel in Brussels. It was time to drive to France and go to prison so to speak. We had heard a lot about this huge prison called H15 and we weren’t sure if the stories were rumors or true. One of the stories was that it was a huge gypsy camp outside the main entrance, and we had to avoid being seen by them at all cost. There were stories about them acting as a kind of guard squad...

Abandoned Villa O (BE)

The Creepy Abandoned Villa in Belgium. This old abandoned house was found next to a busy street in a town in Belgium. The next door neighbors on both sides had fine houses but this building was overgrown and creepy looking. Urban decay at it’s best. We didn’t think too much about not being seen when we walked onto the property and up to the house. We were definitely seen but people didn’t seem to care. Maybe they were used to people checking this particular house out. We checked the exterior for the entry point and found it at last. It...

House of Religious Items (BE)

Some Very Religious People Used To Live here. This small house was the first place we went to on a long weekend trip to Belgium and France. After we managed to set up the GPS coordinates properly and figuring how to get out of the airport with the rental car we were on our way. We found the small village easily and the house as well. We parked the car on the backside next to the neighbor’s house. An old man was peaking at us from his green garden. The first task was to find an entrance and of course, we...

Nitedals Gunpowder Factory (NO)

Nitedals Gunpowder Factory in Norway In a valley, in Norway, north of Oslo is an area with lots of history. It is impossible to see this place on satellite photos since trees and vegetation cover the small buildings so it took a while to find the place. Once there was a gunpowder factory here with many buildings from 1882. The production buildings were placed in a row next to the river with an only one-meter gap. In 1919 an explosion spread through all the houses and 7 people was killed. When they rebuilt the area the buildings was placed further apart. Now,...

The Old School (SE)

The old School in Sweden This old school building is one of my favorite abandoned places in Sweden. The decay is overwhelming and ruble and dust are everywhere. Here are old school desks in eerie classrooms and messages were written on the boards from pasts visitors. The roof had collapsed in one of the attic corners with trees growing on the floor. I don’t know much about the history of the place. It was difficult enough to find it in the first place. In many ways, the building reminds me of a school from nightmares where you have eternal detention...

Fredriksberg paper mill (SE)

The shell of a forgotten Paper Mill. Fredriksberg paper mill in Sweden is a huge place. Access was easy but some levels needed a few ninja skills. The first hall we entered was tall and immense and the floor was covered in grass. I had to step carefully so I didn’t step through many of the openings and holes and fell down to the concrete level below. The place had been secured and all ladders and entryways to the top of this room were removed. In the 1950s the problems started here and they couldn’t compete with other factories both...
